Nature has been close to me since I was a child. We went outdoors with my parents almost every weekend. This is how I had the opportunity to learn about different trees, plants, birds, animals, tracks and, last but not least, mushrooms. My brother and I competed to see who could find more chanterelles or boletus.  We always had a dog, so this relationship is natural for me.

I was introduced to truffles when I was a teenager. At first, we went with my father, who taught me about small details, patience and humility. Since it grows underground, it is not as obvious to find it as the other mushrooms. In addition, it is very sensitive to the soil, it only likes calcareous soil with a high pH. Furthermore, it can only form a symbiotic relationship with certain trees. That's why you need patience. It is possible that the given forest meets the above requirements, but regardless of that, the nests can be up to several 100 meters apart. That's why a dog is essential to finding truffles.

As a lover of nature and dogs, this hunt is a truly profound experience for me. Nature gives something different every time. The morning lights and the chirping of birds always fill me with energy. It is exciting to learn about the life of the forest. I see where the deer are sleeping, the boar hair is visible on the trunks of the trees, because that's where it was good for him to scratch. You learn to be a part of this wonderful ecosystem.

Still, the most wonderful experience for me is working with dogs. The most important part is trust. The owner must believe and know that the dog is looking for truffles, not game. If there is a piece, you will find it. After all, the picker never knows exactly where, when and how many truffles will grow. There are peaks and valleys. Also, there must be trust on the part of the dog. He will let you know if he finds it, and the owner must notice it. If both come together, the work is harmonious, and there is nothing more wonderful than that!

One of my most memorable moments happened during my first white truffle hunt. Neither I nor my dog Rigó had done this before, so we both had to learn. The poor thing was affected because he was in a strange place, surrounded by strange people and dogs. You haven't moved from my feet for half a day. You should know that the white is much deeper than the black, and the smell is also much different. When Rigó caught the thread and smelled the white, he looked at me as if asking, am I looking for this? I nodded and encouraged him, and he started digging for it, and we found our first white. I will never forget this moment, this eye contact!
